So I'm back! .. Anyone still there? Yes? No? Maybe? Hmm..we'll go with "hopefully yes" :)
To all my faithful readers, I'm sorry for the 3.5 months of absence. Haven't written since March, feel bad about that. Well for the first 2months, I lost my proxy and couldn't access my own blog...all due to the Chinese Government and their unexplained banning of blogging sites in the land of the look-alike's. As for the remaining 1.5 months, I can accredit that lost time to being back home; catching up with family, spending time with my friends and significant other, and of course, the occasional writers block.
Now that I'm writing again, I'm booming with ideas on what to write. I guess I had it in me all along, I just needed to get tired of my bed :D
So I've been home for a while now, "The Land of The Brave". And ironically, a lot has changed, yet a lot hasn't changed. You got to love home for that. It's the same mundane place. Same people hang at the same places, same people live in the same hood, do the same things, same corner shop..etc etc. As for the change, I believe my country has seriously taken a turn for the wicked :/
Diving right into it, the passion killings in this country are ridiculous!! When did it even start?? Almost every other day that i read the paper or watch the news, "..a man is in custody after he murdered his girlfriend". It's really all scary for me. It's like all the evils in the world have ganged up and decided to take over our people. Yes, that many evils!!
It's sad to say the least, that the men in our country have resorted to forming a "trend" of killing their significant others, all because they were dumped, or caught their lovers in the act of infidelity. I mean, I'm no one for physical violence especially against women, no way am I for it, but the question remains, "What happened to JUST beating??" Point of the matter in that question is, men have taken violence from one extreme to all hell gone lose. In all honestly, they've taken the catch phrase "Til death do us apart" and put it on a whole other scale.
As a young Namibian lady (Yes, i just wrote lady :D), I can imagine that this "passion killing" trend would instill fear in any Namibian woman/lady/girl. Who would want to be in a relationship with or even get married to someone in this new up-and -coming breed of monsters?? After seeing another killing on the news one evening, my own mother nearly encouraged me NOT to get married...atleast not to a Namibian man. It's that bad.
And it can only be worse for the parents who raised these people. A mother reading about the death of her young 22 year old daughter. Or the mother of the guy who did it. Where have the morals and values gone in this society?
A couple of the outcries to resolve this national issue have ranged from life imprisonment to the death sentence. I'm actually on the fence about the whole "death sentence" suggestion. For pro, it would definately instill the same fear into this breed of men, and MAY reduce if not completely wipe out this killing epidemic. As for con though, these guys usually end up killing themselves after committing the crime, so who ends up getting the sentence anyway?? And do we really want to become a nation that "takes a life for a life lost"? Even castration is up on my list: Take their manhood!! At the end of the day, all these suggestions could be thrown out there, but the real change is really only going to come from our people and us finding the root of this problem.
Although I want to go on and on about this issue, I really can't allow my post to be longer than it is :/ Maybe I'll tackle it again, but hopefully when I do again, it's going to be "Rainbows & Cake" in this nation of ours.

I like this topic because not many have taken their time to look in to these passion killings and they are slowly growing all over the world, most recently a footballer in Brazil fed his girlfriend to the dogs and our very own African celebrity OSCAR shot his girlfriend on Valentines Day!!! Clearly something’s not right.
ReplyDeleteThese have quickly become tweeter sensations but the question still remains why?? Why have these guys taken it upon themselves to take their lover’s lives? Was it a moment of madness? Was it the feeling of betrayal that overwhelmed them? At least one thing we can be sure of is that it was a crime of passion. I believe one thing must be understood; the men that beat their partners rarely hit them (if ever) for being unfaithful, but for reasons pertaining to dissatisfaction and/or feelings of inferiority. These are behaviours that I as a young man believe must be dealt with by means of severe punishment as I believe death is just an easy way out.
The way I see it society plays a big role in influencing both parties, don’t get me wrong but it should not be overlooked that the woman or ‘lady’ may have been a victim of her own actions. Passion is an intense compelling feeling or emotion so for a man in love and insecure it could as well be a grenade waiting for someone to pull the clip. At that moment when heartbreak strikes I would think a feeling of “if I cant have her no one can” pops into ones mind forcing them to make irrational impulse decisions, and the blunt sound of peers laughing brings in the feeling of shame and disgrace. In general I think everyone should go back to the grass roots revisit their morals differentiate between right and wrong , go in to relationships for the right reasons if you are not happy break it off before it gets ugly. So simple!! GOOD BLOG! @vilad10
