Excuses, excuses. And more excuses.

"You only live once, that's the motto nigga, YOLO." - Drake

"You Only Live Once". Yes, that's true. Unless you're like an undercover cat and you're hiding your other 8 lives, you've only really got one go at this life thing.

In all honesty though, I've never used the term "YOLO" at the end of any sentence, ever. Mainly because of the way this term is resorted to by my peers, or more so, the reasons as to WHY this term is resorted to by a large number of people. I really believe this whole "You Only Live Once" movement is an excuse for peoples reckless living. Most people.

"Its Friday night, lets get wasted all weekend, YOLO!!", "It's okay if I sleep around, I'm young and duh, YOLO!", "I'm going to pop bottles in the cluuuub and spend money I don't have, YOLO.", and it goes on and on. It's really all sad and horrible. All if a sudden this catch phrase from a song has become a way of life for the masses. I mean first of all, did everyone really think they could live TWICE before the "YOLO regime" came around?

At the end of the day, people will do what they want and it's going to be out there. But I really feel that the people of my generation have taken a completely new turn, from being focused on our goals and living healthy safe lives. There's no virtue in what people do anymore. There's no trust or loyalty in any relationships that they form. It's life in the fast lane and "La Vida Loca" all the time. Sometimes i really wish we could all live the way our parents lived. No social networking sites, no MTV (curse those reality shows). Yes that sounds like I'm putting the advancement wagon in reverse, but is there really any advancement in the PEOPLE of society with the reckless living going on left, right and centre??

15 year old girls "dating" men twice their age, 12 year olds writing about how wasted they were the night before, 18 year old girls bragging about how many guys they've slept with. Where exactly is this going?? I have nothing against Drake and his music. Actually, I love me some Drake :p *cringe*, and quite honestly, that's not even the point of the matter. The whole YOLO thing is an example just to show how the youth of today try to justify their behaviour and "norms". Suddenly, You Only Live Once has been translated to "You have a short life, so live like a fool." Yeah sure, a long life isn't guaranteed, but if you're blessed enough to not get run over by a truck sooner than later, then LIFE is probably going to be the longest thing you ever do.

I mean, YOLO could have been defined as "You only live once - so do it right and live a happy, influential, responsible life." But no, "parry parry parry" was written in cryptic. Somewhere.

I've never been one to follow the masses, or really do what everyone else is doing, yet it still sucks that my peers have lost footing in this world. So I hope people can stop following "trends" and making excuses for the wrong choices they make, cause at the end of the party you're on your own. Probably nursing a drinking problem, empty bank account and an unwanted pregnancy.

Risen From Under The Rock...and into "The Land of The Doomed"!!

So I'm back! .. Anyone still there? Yes? No? Maybe? Hmm..we'll go with "hopefully yes" :)

To all my faithful readers, I'm sorry for the 3.5 months of absence. Haven't written since March, feel bad about that. Well for the first 2months, I lost my proxy and couldn't access my own blog...all due to the Chinese Government and their unexplained banning of blogging sites in the land of the look-alike's. As for the remaining 1.5 months, I can accredit that lost time to being back home; catching up with family, spending time with my friends and significant other, and of course, the occasional writers block.

Now that I'm writing again, I'm booming with ideas on what to write. I guess I had it in me all along, I just needed to get tired of my bed :D

So I've been home for a while now, "The Land of The Brave". And ironically, a lot has changed, yet a lot hasn't changed. You got to love home for that. It's the same mundane place. Same people hang at the same places, same people live in the same hood, do the same things, same corner shop..etc etc. As for the change, I believe my country has seriously taken a turn for the wicked :/

Diving right into it, the passion killings in this country are ridiculous!! When did it even start?? Almost every other day that i read the paper or watch the news, "..a man is in custody after he murdered his girlfriend". It's really all scary for me. It's like all the evils in the world have ganged up and decided to take over our people. Yes, that many evils!!

It's sad to say the least, that the men in our country have resorted to forming a "trend" of killing their significant others, all because they were dumped, or caught their lovers in the act of infidelity. I mean, I'm no one for physical violence especially against women, no way am I for it, but the question remains,  "What happened to JUST beating??" Point of the matter in that question is, men have taken violence from one extreme to all hell gone lose. In all honestly, they've taken the catch phrase "Til death do us apart" and put it on a whole other scale.

As a young Namibian lady (Yes, i just wrote lady :D), I can imagine that this "passion killing" trend would instill fear in any Namibian woman/lady/girl. Who would want to be in a relationship with or even get married to someone in this new up-and -coming breed of monsters?? After seeing another killing on the news one evening, my own mother nearly encouraged me NOT to get married...atleast not to a Namibian man. It's that bad.

And it can only be worse for the parents who raised these people. A mother reading about the death of her young 22 year old daughter. Or the mother of the guy who did it. Where have the morals and values gone in this society?

A couple of the outcries to resolve this national issue have ranged from life imprisonment to the death sentence. I'm actually on the fence about the whole "death sentence" suggestion. For pro, it would definately instill the same fear into this breed of men, and MAY reduce if not completely wipe out this killing epidemic. As for con though, these guys usually end up killing themselves after committing the crime, so who ends up getting the sentence anyway?? And do we really want to become a nation that "takes a life for a life lost"? Even castration is up on my list: Take their manhood!! At the end of the day, all these suggestions could be thrown out there, but the real change is really only going to come from our people and us finding the root of this problem.

Although I want to go on and on about this issue, I really can't allow my post to be longer than it is :/ Maybe I'll tackle it again, but hopefully when I do again, it's going to be "Rainbows & Cake" in this nation of ours.

Sneak Peek.. :/

I know I've been crazy quiet.. (like crazy quiet exists).. But i hope whoever actually reads my blog isn't disappointed. I'm currently steaming through my ears at the amount of school work I've got and preparing for my upcoming exams. But nonetheless, i'll do my best to post something new time to time.. Oh yeah, apologies for the minor changes to the whole blog view. As a new blogger,  I'm busy "pimping" so to say, or making a few changes to my blog, to find the best look and form for it to totally express me what i'm all about.. Sorry for the inconvenience.. beijos!!

A Dime To Reach For

A few weeks ago my sister sent me something amazing, that just seemed to make my day. It also reminded me of a phone conversation i had with my mum a while back on one of my really "down-days".
This is the conversation after all the greetings and what not..
......
MOM: "Whats wrong?
ME: "I really don't think I want to be here anymore. School is so difficult! I'm not getting the language, so how am I supposed to get the subjects IN this language?? I'm so depressed. I keep wondering, 'What if I don't pass or make it??' I'll have spent so many years somewhere I don't even want to be, failing at becoming what I want to be. I'm so worried."

*Pause*

ME: "Hello?"
MOM: "What would you like to do about it then?"
ME: "Well I've been thinking, what if i just start applying for all the loans/bursaries etc. that I can get, and at the same time apply to a medical school closer to home? Most importantly I would be able to study in english. Would you and Tate (dad) be willing? Can I talk to him about it?"
MOM: "Okay, you can do that if that's what you want."

At this point in time, let us observe the following:
1. My mum talks quite a bit when she's really serious (yes, that's where i got it from) - And she wasn't saying nearly enough.
2. She wouldn't just say "okay" without making me explain really well that it's the best option - She hadn't done that.
3. If she was really being serious & empathetic, she would have resorted to using the vernacular language by now (Oshiwambo). She seems to like to joke in english.
This was weird...

ME: "So I can't?"
MOM: "I just said you can dear."
ME: "Really??"
MOM: "Mala kala ike wushi kutya...(but just know that).."

I knew it...!! There was a catch :/

MOM:... "You're taking the easy way out. Yes it might be easier, because giving up is the easiest thing in the world. Did you forget that you didn't get into med school last year? You were depressed about studying something you didn't want. And it's not easy for me as a mother to see you unhappy because you couldn't pursue your dreams. God blessed you with this opportunity, I thank him everyday for it, for not only do i know he will keep you safe but he will guide you through your biggest obstacles, but in the end, you will have pursued your dream and by his grace, will have achieved it. It takes time Ndapewa, if your heart is in it, you will understand soon enough."

I'm pretty sure you get an idea of where this conversation headed. I got off the phone feeling silly but still more encouraged then I'd been in a while. I truly believe that anything in life that's worth having is worth twice the effort, most especially our dreams. We can control our minds to settle for something else, but our hearts would always know we never tried.

"Between you & every goal that you wish to achieve, there is a series of obstacles, and the bigger the goal, the bigger the obstacles. Your decision to be, have and do something out of the ordinary entails difficulties and challenges that are out of the ordinary as well. Sometimes your greatest asset is simply your ability to stay with it longer than anyone else."

- Brian Tracy

THIS is what my sister sent me, a day or so after my talk with my mum. A quote to please the heart & ease the mind. Anyway, I wouldn't usually share something as personal as a phone call..but I'm hoping a lot of you can relate to the main concept. Nothings really impossible...it's practically your dream speaking cryptic telling you, "i.M.possible". :D

Haha. Found this today. Really cute, funny and naughty all at once!
